I don’t believe this post is truly going to do justice, or give a full depiction of what and absolutely incredible women my wife is…….but I will give it a go.

As anyone who has gone through the journey of having a child will know, there are ups and downs along the way. The amount that the body has to adjust and go through along the way is truly incredible and the fortitude that Rachel demonstrated was inspiring. She dealt with terrible sickness, to aches and pains and being uncomfortable just to name a few things and took them all in her stride.

I don’t think I had many preconceived ideas about the birth but when I look back I can still remember everything so clearly. While events like this usually seem to rush by as theres lots going on, this seemed not to. This makes even more in awe if Rachel as she went through the whole process determined and strong as every. Never complaining and just focused on what she needed to do to get through. Of course I was not completely useless, In fact I played an integral role by fanning her with a towel and giving her water……….like I said not completely useless.

So next we come home and the next part begins, while she had to recover from giving birth she also had the monumental task of having to breast feed Elias. This is such a huge undertaking and I have the utmost respect for any women who does this. All day and all night you are basically on call. It doesn’t matter how tired you are the baby just wants to feed when they are hungry.

After 3 weeks off I had to return to work, which left Rachel doing most of the parenting. I look back and see how hard of a job that was then and the way she managed it was truly something special. In he-insight there are definitely things that I would have done differently and maybe this is a general feeling we have as dad’s, always feel like I could have done more to support.

Rachel has continued to the most amazing mother. She always has fun activities to do with Elias to keep him entertained and never once are his needs not put first. Through the whole of lockdown being at home with him all day she was there with him.

There are so many reasons I could put to illustrate why she is so brilliant and It would require another 10 posts at least. These are just a few of reasons why she’s who I inspire to be as a parent and why she’s the hero of this story.
